Benjamin Chien Liu

2018 – Florence, SC

A graduate of Wilson High School, Benjamin is the son of Cheng Chien Liu and Shao Fang Huang of Florence, South Carolina. Serving as captain for Wilson High School’s math and academic challenge teams, he has led the teams to several regional and state victories. A classically trained violinist, Benjamin has studied violin since age three. In addition to performing at charity events and serving as a freelance musician at a local church, he has been a member of the South Carolina All-State Orchestra for several years and was a winner of the 2014 Young Artists Concerto Competition sponsored by the Florence Symphony Orchestra. Benjamin is also a four-year varsity letter athlete on the Wilson men’s tennis team. In 2012, he was South Carolina’s recipient of the prestigious American Association of Teachers of German/Pädagogischer Austauschdienst Study Trip Award to Germany. In addition, he is an active member of the Wilson High School Civitans and attended 2013 Palmetto Boys’ State sponsored by the American Legion. Benjamin is looking forward to studying computer science on a pre-medical track at Duke while continuing to pursue his musical interests in an extracurricular setting.
